Paint brushes are valuable items on Neopets, and they have a unique history as well.
The Glass Paint Brush has been in Neopia for a very long time. On January 8, 2002, all Glass Pets were transformed into Tyrannian. This is when the Tyrannian Pets made their debut. This paint brush can still be found on the shop wizard, but it cannot paint your pets, sadly. It's just a nice collectable.
The Stone Paint Brush is also a retired paint brush. On June 26 and 27, 2002, all stone pets became Mystery Island themed. This is again when this new replacement color was released.
Many Neopians are probably unaware that there used to be a
Choose The New Paint Brush Competition. . In this survey, each player could vote for their favorite paint brush and the most popular paint brush would then be made into a real one. The options included the Baby Paint Brush, the Tartan Paint Brush, the Pirate Paint Brush, and the Mystery Island Paint Brush. Three out of four of these were released and I'm personally awaiting for the Tartan Paint Brush to be released. :D

Finally, the Unicorn Paint Brush is also a retired paint brush. When this paint brush was retired, all Unicorn Paint Brushes were turned into a Unicorn Gem and all unicorn pets were colored red. The dates are unconfirmed.
